The Institute is seeking to attract an assistant professor in International History focusing on gender but also sensitive to other critical approaches to historical scholarship (such as feminist, postcolonial, critical race, etc.), and to perspectives from intersectional/interstitial locations. Within the general rubric of gender, the appointee would increase the International History Department’s capacity in one or more of its core fields and interests, viz. history of international relations, transnational, postcolonial, and global/world histories, c.1800 to the present. The search specifically includes potential applicants working on the Global South and/or from Southern perspectives. This reflects the Graduate
Institute’s strategy to mainstream gender into its existing disciplines. Accordingly, besides demonstrated disciplinary expertise in History, knowledge of feminist theories and methodologies, preferably deepened by other critical, counterhegemonic approaches, is an essential requirement.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in History and have a doctoral degree in hand prior to the start of her/his contract. She/he will teach will teach postgraduate courses in the Department of International History and provide courses for the interdisciplinary programmes of the Institute. She or he will supervise Master’s and PhD theses. The capacity to work with colleagues from other disciplines is an asset.

The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it.
